PIGMENTATION

Beyond Melasma

Facial pigmentation is not synonymous with melasma. Facial melanosis encompasses a spectrum of pigmentary disorders with distinct aetiologies, depths of pigment, and clinical behaviour. Accurate diagnosis is essential for effective and lasting results.

At Novesse, we prioritise identifying the underlying cause of facial melanosis through detailed clinical evaluation and dermoscopic assessment. Pigmentation outcomes are optimised when the exact type and trigger are addressed.

Types of Facial Melanosis

  • Melasma

  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

  • Actinic (Sun-Induced) Melanosis

Diffuse or focal pigmentation resulting from chronic ultraviolet exposure and photoageing.

  • Contact / Cosmetic-Induced Melanosis

Pigmentary changes secondary to chronic exposure to irritants, allergens, or photosensitising agents in topical products.

  • Periorbital and Perioral Melanosis

Multifactorial pigmentation influenced by genetic predisposition, frictional trauma, vascular components, or nutritional factors.

  • Drug-Induced Melanosis

Hyperpigmentation associated with systemic medications or prolonged inappropriate topical use.
